Milan deny Montolivo, Ganso interest

AC Milan have negated that they are still interested in signing Fiorentina’s Ricardo Montolivo and Ganso through its vice-president Adriano Galliani who declared that the Rossoneri won’t transfer the two midfielders on San Siro this summer. Although it is well-known that the Italian champions had eyed the two at one point, the two players are no longer likely to sign Massimiliano Allegri’s side despite the fact that Ganso is keen to set new heights in Milano. Galliani confirmed at the same time that there haven’t been set any talks with Fiorentina regarding Montolivo’s move, adding that the team does have instead a vacant place for a non-European player, but his name is not Ganso.

“There are no negotiations in place to sign Montolivo. Milan does have a vacant place for a non-European player but it’s not Ganso. If another player was to arrive it would be a midfielder. However, I believe that Andrea Pirlo can be replaced by a player that we already have in our squad,” said the vice-president. AC Milan lost Andrea Pirlo who joined former champions Juventus with whom he signed a three-year deal. The Rossoneri have already made three transfers, including former AS Roma defender Philippe Mexes, Stephan El Shaarawy and Taye Taiwo. They say though that the Italians are also interested in Brazilian revelation Neymar who is courted by Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City. The rumor hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the 19-year-old is keen to join an European side next winter.

Santos won’t let him go until he competes for the FIFA Club World Cup, trophy the Brazilians eye this year. Neymar is worth more than $60 million, money that Real Madrid looked willing to pay today if needed. FC Barcelona have also expressed their desire to bring the youngster on the Camp Nou, but they don’t afford the money this summer, having already spent tens of millions on Alexis Sanchez of Udinese. Even more than that, the Catalans are still expecting a favorable answer from Arsenal regarding Cesc Fabregas release. If the Gunners let him go, the Spaniards will have to pay other tens of millions on their former player, something which might lead to the impossibility of bringing Neymar this year.

AC Milan added that Antonio Cassano will stay for at least one more season with them despite all the rumors that see him make the move from Milano. The 29-year-old striker, who joined the Rossoneri earlier this year, has scored four goals in 17 games with the San Siro side with which he won club’s 18th title. Milan will play arch rivals Inter in the Italian Super Cup, game which is scheduled to take place this summer in Beijing when both sides will be chasing their sixth trophy in history.
