De Gea to complete United move

Atletico Madrid keeper De Gea is to complete his move to Manchester Untied after the 20-year-old player came to England on Monday in order to take the medical test. The Spaniard twitted he’s been invited by the club to have the last talks on his long-awaited transfer. De Gea thus arrived in Manchester with his family, being likely to remain on Old Trafford starting with the new season. United are reportedly to pay the Spanish club 18 million pounds, though the fee hasn’t been revealed by the two sides. De Gea has become one of the key pieces in both the Vicente Calderon side and the Under 21 national team of Spain.

Said the player: “I have been invited by Man U to see the club and the city with my family and to be given an offer.” The youngster has gathered 57 selections with the Madrilenos whom he joined back in 2009 from their B side. De Gea is winner of two of the most important European trophies. He helped Atletico won the 2009-10 UEFA Europa League and Super Cups . His international experience includes the 2007 European U-17 Championship and the FIFA U-17 World Cup, as well as the 2011 Under-21 Championship. Unfortunately, he failed to secure an Europa League spot this term as Atletico finished the season seventh with 58 points, the same as FC Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao who will make the EL group stage in the 2011-22 term.

The new goalkeeper is to replace veteran Edwin Van der Sar after the Dutch has announced his retirement this summer. Kuszczak is thus unlikely to stay a main favorite for the Dutch place, De Gea being more likely to be part among the Alex Ferguson’s first XI list. Howver, the former Atletico keeper will have the opportunity to make his Champions League debut after the Red Devils have secured a group stage spot after winning the Premier League title this year. United overcame Chelsea, taking the Premiership with 80 points, nine above the former defending champions from Stamford Bridge.

De Gea is the sacone big name to join Old Trafford after both Ashley Young and Phil Jones completed long-term deals with the Devils this window transfer. Young left Aston Villa after four years, for which he scored 30 goals in 157 games. As for Jones, the defender left Blackburn Rovers to set new heights and breathe the UCL air. Young’s arrival on Trafford didn’t scare Nani, though, who plays on the same position as the winger. The Portuguese, who was the best assister for United last term, said he won’t consider a move from Manchester although he is likely to fight for his place harder.

“Of course I have to welcome everyone they sign, I think Man United is a fantastic club. When they bring in new players, they know if it is good for the team or not, and this Young signing has to help them. It is good for the team, we want more players to help us to win trophies,” said Nani whp has joined the Trafford side back in 2007. The 24-year-old has scored 17 goals and gathered 95 selections with the Red Devils with whom he has won the UCL trophy, FIFA Club World Cup, as well as three Premiership titles, three Community Shields and a League Cup. He finished this term with 14 assists and nine goals.
