Hiddink closer to Chelsea job

Former Blues manager Guus Hiddink has declared he could make the return on Stamford Bridge if wanted by the Chelsea board. The 64-year-old Dutch coach, who led the Blues to a FA Cup trophy, is currently training the Turkish national team, said he won’t refuse the job if the West-Londoners make a clear offer towards him, though his contract with the Turkish FA expires this October. The Blues sacked Carlo Ancelotti earlier this month because of the poor results, the Italian failing to led his side to a new championship title. The decision regarded at the same time the lamentable performances the team obtained within the Champions League as well as in the FA and Carling Cups.

“There’s nothing concrete. You cannot go into all kind of speculation or rumours because there’s nothing concrete. The moment things are concrete, I’ll go to where I have to be, direct… If there was a concrete offer, then I would think about it…. First, get this game done next Friday, a difficult game, you know. Then we’ll see,” said the Dutch. Hiddink has won the UEFA Champions League trophy back in 1988 while coaching PSV Eindhoven. His club performances include at the same time an Intercontinental Cup won in 1998 with Real Madrid and the 2009 FA Cup.

Concerning his international career, Hiddink has managed to grab precious results with the Netherlands but also with Russia and South Korea, teams whom he has led to new heights. The Dutch reached the UEFA Euro 1996 quarter finals with Holland as well as the fourth place at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. Concerning his Korean job, Hiddink picked the fourth place at the 2002 World Cup, while his best international performance includes a semi final berth claimed at the Euro 2008 with Russia.

The coach has started his manager career back in 1982 when decided to take his former club De Graafschap. He also had the chance to coach big sides such as Real Madrid, Valencia, PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahce. As a Chelsea manager, Hiddink set a pretty remarkable performance which includes 15 wins and five draws in 21 games. Turkey is currently third in the first group of the Euro 2012 qualifiers, having won nine points in five games and sitting just one point behind Belgium whom they meet on June 3.

Hiddink led his side to three wins and have one game in hand, so Turkey have plenty of chances to climb second in a group which is led by Germany with 15 points. As for Chelsea, the Blues finished the season nine points behind the new champions Manchester United whom they failed to beat in the Champions League quarter finals. Everton stunned the former defending champions in the last day of Premier League.
