Borussia were the first to take the lead despite Nurnberg dominated the early minutes of the game. Barrios opened the score in the 32nd minute following a poor defending from the visitors. Schafer saved a first shot but the follow-up was put beyond him by the striker. Barrios got another big chance minutes later, but Luksz Piszczek’s cross was headed wide. The second goal came in the 42nd minute. Lewandowski made it 2-0 following a lamentable marking and a superb lob past keeper Schafer from 15 yards out.

As for the second part, it went scoreless for both sides. Dortmund had plenty of other chances but neither player could score a third one. Fortunately, Nurnberg, too, went scoreless in the second half, something which permitted the home side celebrate their seventh title on Iduna Park. Klopp has joined Borussia Dortmund in 2008 and managed to win his first title after just two years. The previous season found Borussia finishing fifth in the German league and grabbing an UEFA Europa League spot. Unfortunately for Klopp’s side, they failed to make a good figure in the European competition.

Dortmund will next play Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt, the last game being scheduled to take place on May 14 at the same Iduna Park. Apart from the champions, Bayer Leverkusen remain the main favorite for the second place and another place within the Champions League group stage. Leverkusen have won 64 points in 32 games, their next two stops being Hamburger SV and SC Freiburg.

Concerning the defending champions Bayern Munich, the 2010 Champions league runner-up are third in the league, five points behind Leverkusen whose coach is set to leave the team this summer. Munich visit FC St. Pauli on May 7 and VfB Stuttgart on May 14. Andries Jonker’s side are condemned to win both games, realizing that Hannover 96 are just two points behind Munich, also looking for a spot into the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern thwarted the 2011 Champions League semi finalists Schalke 04 4-1 last Saturday thanks to Muller’s double and Robben’s early opening. On the other side, Hannover lost 0-1 to minnows Borussia M’glabach and dropped fourth in the standings. Had they won the home game, Mirko Slomka’s side could have remained third, one point ahead of Munich. Nevertheless, both Hannover and Bayern could grab the third position at the end of the season.
