Former Dutch champions grabbed a comprehensive win over their main followers in the league, PSV Eindhoven whom they defeated 2-0 on Saturday at the De Grolsch Veste. Janssen’s double brought Michel Preud’homme’s side a precious victory which allows them stay top spot in the Eredivisie, two points ahead of Fred Rutten’s squad.

The first half went scoreless, though it did included several occasions on both nets. So, with both sides refusing to risk anything in the first 45 minutes, the second half brought more action. The early minutes of the last part found Twente playing much more aggressive and PSV becoming more frustrated. Thus, the visitors conceded two yellow cards in the 58th and 60th minute, while the hosts were approaching their first goal.
Preud’homme’s side were rewarded with a penalty in the 62nd minute which Janssen converted it after sending Isaksson the wrong way, into the right-hand corner. The first lead forced PSV chasing their leveler desperately, thing which brought them another yellow card in the 70th minute. Buysse, too, got booked minutes after the first goal for a tough challenge. He would be finally replaced by Tiendally with two minutes left.
Janssen completed his double in the 82nd minute following a tremendous individual exquisite as well as a 50-meter distance run which finished with a lovely lob over the keeper and into the far post. The same minute de Jong was replaced by John. It went 2-0 in the end and Twente are approaching another big success in Eredivisie.
They lead the standings with 63 points, two ahead of PSV and five above Ajax who beat Heracles 3-0 on Amsterdam ArenA. Frank de Boer’s side scored all the three goals in the second half, through Oleguer, de Jong and Ozbiliz. Ajax stay in touch for the podium but they still have some work to do in order to pick a Champions League spot. As for their title chances, they seem pretty small. With five matches left, Ajax are condemned to win every game.
FC Twente will next play Roda JC Kerkrade who just beat Willem II in a nine-goal thriller which finished 5-4 to Harm van Veldhoven’s side after they were led 1-0 and 2-1. On the other side, PSV face sc Heerenveen, who lost 2-3 to Excelsior, next Sunday. Finally, Ajax will meet FC Groningen who beat VVV-Venlo 3-2 at home.
