Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to grab three precious points against one of the most shaped teams in Bundesliga, at this moment, Hannover 96. Borussia Dortmund beat Mirko Slomka’s side soundly on Saturday at the Signal Iduna Park thanks to Barrios double and Grosskreutz’s late goal. Gotze would also finish with a goal scored in the second half, while Abdellaouse was the first to score for Hannover minutes into the second part. He would also be the one to score the first goal of the game.

The first half found both sides refusing to risk too much, so the first 45 minutes went scoreless despite including a few shy attempts on goal for each of the two sides. Slomka made the first change at the break, introducing Schludraff for midfielder Rausch. But almost ten minutes into the second part, things were about to get wild. Hannover won a corner on their left, which was taken shortly. But in the end the cross went over the entire crowded box and met Abdellaoue simply flying for it and putting it home at the far post.
That was also the turning point of the meeting as the home side would score four more by themselves. Gotze leveled the score just two minutes later following an astonishing individual action that beat three defenders including keeper Fromlowitz beyond whom the right striker put it. 1-1 and the game was still open to any result. Dortmund made it even 2-1 five minutes later through Barrios, whose header between two defenders beat the same Fromlowitz for the second time.
Even so, things didn’t stop there for Borussia who were almost desperately chasing a third one. And it did come. Barrios was perfectly played through 30 yards out in the 73rd minute to strike it past keeper following a poor defending from Hannover with the offside trap also beaten. The last word belonged to Grosskreutz, who made it 4-1 in the 83rd minute as things looked clear as possible. A superb action from the right ended with a short deflection for the midfielder’s shot who beat Fromlowitz into the far post from ten yards. 4-1 and Borussia remain top spot, having reopened the gap to seven points.
Klopp’s side are first with 65 points won in 28 games, the win over Hannover being their 20th of the season. On the other side, Slomka’s side dropped fourth, having conceded their tenth loss of the season. Hannover have 50 points in 28 games, sitting just one behind the German champions Bayern Munich and eight behind second Bayer Leverkusen. They will next play FSV Mainz 05 who are sixth in the standings, five points behind the, while Borussia visit Hamburger SV on Saturday.
