With Brazil and Romania ready to encounter each other during this summer, the CBF (Brazilian Football Federation) announced Ronaldo will say farewell to the fans during the game. “Ronaldo deserves a farewell game with the Brazil shirt in his own country and I am certain it will be a great celebration.”, declared CBF President Ricardo Teixeira.

The friendly game will be played on June 7 on the Estádio Do Pacaembu in Sao Paolo. Because the stadium only has a capacity of 37,952, it is expected that the fans will flock in to see the legenary striker in the action for the last time. Brazil and Romania only met once before, 31 years ago, during the 1970 FIFA World Cup held in Mexico. Two goals by Pelé and one by Jáirzinho were enough to bring Brazil three points in the group, though the East European team scored twice through Dumitrache and Dembrovschi.
Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, after his full name, was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1976 and started his senior football career with Cruzeiro, before moving to PSV in The Netherlands. Barcelona, Inter, Real Madrid and AC Milan were his next destinations, playing more than 240 games with the four European giants and scoring more than 165 goals in the process. After a lay-down knee injury Milan’s Ronaldo moved back to Brazil on a free, aiming to make the 2010 FIFA World Cup squad, but manager Carlos Dunga decided to let him home. He scored 18 goals in 31 appearances for Corinthians during his last career spell.
Ronaldo is not only considered one of the most prolific striker of the last 15 years, but is also known for being the all-time World-cup scorer leader, with 15 goals scored in three World Cup competitions. Ronaldo was capped 97 times for Brazil, scoring 62 goals, and will earn his well-deserved 98 cap against Romania this summer.
