It’s been an interesting opening day in Premier League this season, with 26 goals scored and a 2.6 goals per game average. The most spectaculous match was definitely the one between Chelsea and the newly promoted WBA. The Blues smashed their opponents with a clear 6-0, following a hat-trick by Drogba, a brace by Malouda and a goal by Lampard. For the first time in Premier League, there was a dream debut for Blackpool, which won 4-0 away against Wigan Athletic.
Berbatov, Fletcher and Giggs scored each one time for a forfait result against Newcastle United on Old Trafford, while Liverpool and Arsenal drew 1-1 on Anfield after a game with one red card on each side. There was misery at the debut for Joe Cole. The English international was sent off during the end of the first half, but I still seriously doubt he should have been booked with the red.
Tottenham hold Manchester City to a goalless draw and Wolverhampton won 2-1 against Stoke City. Everton lost away against Blackburn, following a goal by Nikola Kalinic, Sunderland and Birmingham both got one point after a 2-2. Bolton and Fulham played an unimpressive game to finish 0-0. Aston Villa offered a show against West Ham, to win 3-0 and hold for now the third place alongside Manchester United.
