Suarez brace sends Uruguay further

It’s been a very exciting game between Uruguay and South Korea today. We’ve seen three goals and many other goal scoring opportunities and I think everybody would be happier to see this game instead of the game between Portugal and Brazil. Ajax’s Luis Suarez was today’s man of the match, with a brace scored to ensure Uruguay qualifies through. Park Ji Sung and his side weren’t able to match Uruguay’s finishing rate, being able to score only once, after a childish mistake by Muslera.

South Korea started better and hit the post from in the fourth minute following a free-kick taken by Chuyoung. That moment Uruguay understood they can’t go easy on their opponents and started to attack. Four minutes later, Luis Suarez, with a great season behind, scored after a mistake by Korea’s goalkeeper, who should have beaten the ball before it wen to the opposite striker. After this moment both teams eliminated the errors from the first quarter of the game to ensure the score at half-time remains the same.

The second half was played under a pouring rain, with a Korea that was inspired by its coach half-time talk. After having the possesion of the ball more than the South Americans, Korea managed to score too, in the 68th minute, following a mistake by Muslera, who went out for the ball. Chungyong put the ball past Lazio’s keeper and made it 1-1 with 20 minutes before the end of the game.

When some of the bookies already tipped this game to go in extra times, Luis Suarez scored a fantastic goal after cutting inside the box from the left and curling a ball in off the inside of the far post. One of the best goals of this tournament, no doubt about it. Three minutes later Suarez was substituted off to receive a standing ovation from the crowd. Suarez’s goal was more than enough and the game ended that way, 2-1 for Uruguay, who was also considered to be favourite for this clash.

Uruguay will play in the quarter finals on Friday, at Johannesburg, with the opponent to be decided tonight between USA and Ghana.
