Germany – England and Spain – Portugal, first knockout round’s derbies

There’s not been any impressing performances from teams in the group stage, maybe except Portugal’s great game against Korea, which finished 7-0 for the Europeans. France and Italy, the finalists from the World Cup 2006 are eliminated and Brazil, Spain and Germany are now the three best placed favourites. But, as we’ve seen in the group stage, is not about who is favourite, but about who can play better on the pitch. Now let’s take a look at the eight games soon to come:

Uruguay – Korea Republic and USA – Ghana will be tomorrow, 26th June.

Germany – England and Argentina – Mexic, 27th June.

Netherlands – Slovakia and Brazil – Chile, 28th June.

Paraguay – Japan and Spain – Portugal, 29th June.

The first games each day will start at 16.00 South African time, and the second will begin at 20.30. After those clashes there is going to be a brake of three days until the quarter finals will start.

In my opinion the most interesting games are the two between England against Germany and Portugal against Spain. Argentina may also have a tricky game against Mexic, but I think it’s time for Messi showdown. Netherlands will probably go through and Brazil will meet their expectations too. But who will reach the quarter finals, Paraguay or Japan, USA or Ghana? Stay tuned on Goal-arena to find out!
